About Minesweeper in Windows XP

Minesweeper has shipped with Windows since 3.1 (1992) and was written to teach mouse use, especially right-clicking. The Windows XP version keeps the original rules: the first click is always safe, a 9×9 board hides 10 mines, 16×16 hides 40 and 30×16 hides 99. The best times are kept in a table, and chording with both buttons clears neighbours quickly.

What works in this simulator

  • Beginner 9×9, Intermediate 16×16, Expert 30×16 and Custom boards
  • Right-click flags, ? marks, chord with both buttons
  • Best Times table that survives reload
  • First click is never a mine
