About Internet Explorer in Windows XP

Internet Explorer 6 (SP2) was the default browser of Windows XP: the e logo, the animated Windows flag spinner in the corner, Favorites, History and the Links bar. At its peak it was used by roughly 90% of the web. This version points at the Wayback Machine, so typing a URL shows the page as archived.

Frequently asked questions

Which Internet Explorer came with Windows XP?
Windows XP shipped with Internet Explorer 6; Service Pack 2 added the pop-up blocker and the Information Bar. IE7 and IE8 were later optional updates.
How can I see what a website looked like in the past?
Open Internet Explorer in the simulator and type an address: pages load from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine for the year you choose. A link such as winxp.si/#web=yahoo.com&date=1999 opens one directly.
